United 3D Labs has developed a digital replica of the reserve-museum complex, which is located in the town of Yasi, now Turkestan. The Central object of the "Azret-Sultan" complex is the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. Furthermore, this is the first monument in Kazakhstan that was included in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. Digitization of the historical and cultural reserve was carried out within the framework of the cultural heritage conservation program in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The "Sacred Geography of Kazakhstan" program was launched on the instructions of the First President of the Republic Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2017. More than 100 revered cultural and historical monuments, their natural landscapes should become the basis of national identity and strengthen the historical traditions of the people of Kazakhstan. The aim of the project is creation of accurate digital copies that will provide information on sacred places and monuments that have historical, cultural, and religious significance to Kazakhstan. Since the start of the program, United 3D Labs has been a part of large-scale works on conservation of cultural heritage of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Azaret Sultan Museum complex is one of the largest and most significant constructions. It includes the following locations: the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasavi, Mausoleum of Rabigha-Sultan Begum, the mausoleum of Esim Khan, the mausoleum of Gohar Ana, the underground mosque of Kaluat and other smaller constructions. The total area of the reserve-museum is more than 2 000 hectares. It took us about two weeks to collect all the source materials: scanning with different types of scanners, photogrammetry, aerial photography. Then, there were more than two months of hard work: rendering and inspecting point clouds, creating 3D models and textures, programming in Unreal Engine.
As a result, the museum complex is recreated in virtual reality. It has absolutely authentic geometry and textures. Now you can walk through the territory of the complex, get acquainted with its historical buildings and artifacts. Just put a VR headset on and take a virtual tour of Azaret Sultan reserve-museum.
