For these installations we chose a 3D model of traditional nomads’ dwelling called “yurt”, which was developed for National museum in Astana. Here is an example of how you can use it in virtual and augmented reality.

This interactive installation demonstrates construction steps of a traditional nomadic dwelling – yurt, thoughtfully designed according to all source materials and historical references.

When you run the application for Microsoft HoloLens, the first thing to do is to place the model in space. The obvious benefit in this case is that you can put it anywhere. Plus, it is just breathtaking to observe how the walls and the roof are built in front of you to the beautiful sound of the national music. Almost a fairy tale that makes you feel like Gulliver looking inside the yurt. Moreover, due to historically accurate reproduction of the interior decoration of the yurt model, you can learn a lot about it.

Samsung Gear VR, on the other hand, gives you a full real-life experience. You can admire the beauty of materials and forms of nomadic household items. On the top of that you can move around the yurt using the joystick integrated with the headset. This solution impresses with its simplicity and elegance.

This way, the AR and VR installations give a perfect opportunity to demonstrate various possibilities of architectural visualization and interior solutions.
