United 3D Labs CEO Dmitry Vatulin gave a presentation on such topics as creating a comfortable urban environment for residents, application of VR/AR and 3D technologies for cultural objects and digitalization of museums.

Here we would like to give the gist of the speech:

Shaping a comfortable environment in a city, especially in a smart one, is hard to imagine without cultural institutions involved, such as theatres, museums, exhibitions, etc. Modern multimedia solutions have been involved in all spheres of cultural life.

Let’s take theaters, there are various examples of implementing MM technologies:

·         Digital Signage systems have become a great way to display repertoire.

·         Multimedia design of a stage space, which involves video walls, smart lighting devices (for instance, at Musical or the Yermolova Theater) and projecting systems.

·         Interactive kiosks let present repertoire, history, or biographies of actors (a great example is Taganka Theatre) in a user friendly way.

·         Online broadcast of performances on the Internet, including 360° VR.

·         Exhibition spaces, such as Artplay, constantly use different multimedia technologies.

Moreover, there are not only theaters, multimedia technologies are fast embedding themselves into modern museums in Moscow, which successfully make use of modern interactive solutions: the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center, the State Darwin Museum, etc. They employ information kiosks, multi-touch tables, video mappings, interactive installations - the list is endless. This is the best proof that technology has completely revolutionized the consumption of art.

We would like to thank Kommersant for inviting us for a discussion: it was a pleasure to share our insights on modern multimedia solutions in art and cultural institutions with you.
