United 3D Labs has created a video mapping for Verdi's "Othello" that is shown in Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre in Moscow shows the last premiere of the 100th season: Giuseppe Verdi's “Otello” directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. The famous director, as well as screenwriter and producer, has staged operas at La Scala and the Mariinsky Theatre. The creative duo of Andrei Konchalovsky and set designer Matt Deeley has already worked on the famous "Crime and punishment" rock opera, for which United 3D Labs created a video mapping on a moving scenery.

It was required to develop the content for the rear screen projection for backdrops, which is active in all 4 acts of the opera: there are waves, splashes, lightning, stars, and the endless sky.

Matt Deeley’s scenography impresses with the way he manages to make use of the entire depth of the stage and its laconic scenery. There are incredible possibilities for transformation that lie in vertical lamella blinds arrangement of the stage: they either go together forming a blind wall or move apart opening a Tuscany landscape.

Andrei Konchalovsky is a true professional of his craft. In his opinion “the difficulty is that the visual imagery in the opera does not necessarily have to correspond to Verdi’s vision. It might come as a shock but only the kind that wouldn't ruin great composer’s music reading of the great drama.”

The content is developed using disguise designer (formerly d3 Technologies). Furthermore, it is designed for playback on a media server disguise 2X4 D3 PRO.

Producing an opera with multimedia abstract locations can help create a director’s desired spatial qualities. That was the main goal. The whole content creation process was carried out within a very short period of time. There was not much time to test it either, so it was introduced bit by bit during rehearsals. Besides, the fact that we own a high-performance render farm enables us to minimize the time spent on developing, changing or correcting the content.
