United 3D Labs has developed an augmented reality installation for Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) demonstration pavilion.

The boundaries between the virtual and real worlds are getting more and more blurred. Imagine, there is quite a simple (if not primitive) layout of Moscow in front of you. It shows the lines of the main roads and attractions of the capital. However, when you take a tablet in your hands and point it at the grey layout – hocus-pocus! There is suddenly a colorful and animated city on the screen: cars drive around, clouds float, and fireworks light up the sky. Day follows the night, after rain comes the sunshine, and after winter summers arrives.

The most important thing is that it is not only beautiful but also functional. In augmented reality, the guests of the demonstration pavilion can see the routes of Moscow Central Diameters, the way they integrate into the landscape of Moscow and the Moscow region.

If you press the MCD-1 or MCD-2 button on the screen, you will see the highlighted route of the selected diameter, names and location of all its stations. There is also a main map which demonstrates all 6 diameters at once. By clicking on the station icon on the general map you will be to the 3D model of the platform and see what it will be like when it is finished.

The augmented reality installation developed for Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) demonstration pavilion is a unique project. You can see a whole animated city in AR on the screen of a tablet. The project was implemented with the help of the Unity game engine, Apple ARKit technology and United 3D Labs own software.
