Sample solution for Augmented and Virtual Reality

United 3D Labs, commissioned by the major museum of the Astana city, has developed an interactive exposition dedicated to the culture of nomads.

The first step is always the hardest. From the very start, it was very clear what information we wanted to present. Our customer also had a clear understanding that the exhibition should be implemented using the latest technological advances in the field of visual demonstration. The only question was what to choose in this particular case: augmented or virtual reality?

To solve the dilemma, United 3D Labs gave the customer an opportunity to compare two technologies in action, demonstrating the capabilities of each of them. The traditional dwelling of nomads, the Yurt, was chosen as a sample.

We have created 3D models of nomads’ traditional yurt for both Microsoft HoloLens Headset (augmented reality headset) and Samsung Gear VR (virtual reality headset). The two installations, made by our leading experts, use two different technologies with different content.

The obvious benefit of Microsoft HoloLens is that you can place your yurt anywhere. Breathtaking to observe how the walls and the roof are built in front of you to the beautiful sound of the national music. Almost a fairy tale that makes you feel like Gulliver looking inside the yurt.

Samsung Gear VR, on the other hand, gives you a full real-life experience. You can admire the beauty of materials and forms of nomadic household items. On the top of that you can move around the yurt using the joystick integrated with the headset.

This way our solution gives a perfect opportunity to compare the capabilities and advantages of these two technologies in action.
